Family Fun Time!

Whew, what a (four-day) weekend! We've been having a lot of fun with family members visiting. First, my sister-in-law Emily came up from Indiana on Thursday to visit before school starts up again. It was great seeing her. We also learned something new. On Friday, we decided to go see the movie "The Ugly Truth." We went to an early matinee, figuring that there would be few people to bother should Ronan cry (and I was prepared to simply take him out of the theater if he started to do so). Well, when we tried to buy our tickets, the manager told us that children under 5 were not allowed into an R rated movie - even with their parents. Now, I understand not wanting parents to bring a 3 year old into a horror flick like Saw, for example, it still seems kind of like a silly rule, especially when applied to a romantic comedy. But oh well. We went and got ice cream instead and then took a nice walk around the lake.

Emily left Saturday morning and around noon my cousin Steph and her husband and their two kids (Ellie, age 4, and Frisco, age 18 months) arrived. We had a great, action-packed two days. We spent some time at the lake and it was fun to watch the kids chase the ducks and try to get them to come over to us (we didn't bring any food and as soon as the ducks realized this, they really weren't all that interested in us). Ronan's still to young to really get excited about them. At home, it was cute to watch Ellie be protective of Ronan. We were playing on the floor and Frisco wanted to play with Ronan's toys. Ronan of course doesn't really "play" with things; he mostly just stuffs them in his mouth. But Ellie didn't think it was fair that Frisco would take things out of Ronan's hand, so she decided to literally stand guard, placing herself between Ronan and Frisco and making sure Ronan had plenty of toys to play with. And Frisco is such a cute little boy - it's hard to believe that in just a year, Ronan will be walking around and talking.

On Sunday, we did some indoor stuff due to weather. We went to Chapel Hill Mall where the kids, including Ronan, went on the Merry-Go-Round. He seemed to enjoy it, holding onto the pole and not crying. He kept his face turned the other way though so I couldn't see his face. Later, the weather cleared and we went to visit Steph's friend here. It was a lot of fun and we got to go for a tractor ride and see an alpaca farm. I liked watching the kids play - Ronan, being the youngest and least mobile had to sit most of it out, but once again, I realized that soon enough he'll be toddling around as well.

I missed saying good-bye this morning, since they packed up around 4 a.m. (I did wake up when Loki barked at them and had every intention of getting up to say good-bye. However, I fell back asleep and instead dreamed that I got up and said good-bye. it was very weird.

So anyway, it was a fun weekend all the way around. I think it kind of wore Ronan out because he just took an hour long nap (woohoo). We're on our way now to look at some more day cares, which is a whole different post, so I'll be back.
