Childcare and trying to crawl

Things have been going pretty well here. We're still getting prepared for the start of school. Last week, Tom and I left Ronan with Tom's mom while we went to see a movie. It went ok, I guess. When we got back, we saw her walking around with Ronan in her arms. Apparently he was happy as long as he was being walked around, but otherwise, he was pretty cranky. I think that was a combo of being away from us and general crankiness that he's been going through. There have been fussy times each day lately where he's only content when being walked around. I think (and I can't remember how many times I've thought this only to be wrong) that we're getting into the heart of teething now - he's drooling a ton and chomps on just about anything he can get his hands on. He's also waking up more at night, which is kind of a pain, but I know other moms deal with a lot worse, so I'm trying to take it in stride.

Yesterday I went and enrolled Ronan in daycare. After we finished the paperwork part, the director let us go back to the infant room to take a look around again. There was a little girl close to Ronan's age in there that they were just setting down in the high chair to eat. She was starting to cry, but as soon as she us, he start smiling, babbling, and laughing. It was pretty funny - if I turned to look at any of the other babies, she would start crying again. Ronan was pretty quiet at first, taking it all in. He let the staff members hold him, but he kept looking back at me as if to make sure I was still there and not going anywhere. I have meetings next week for school for a couple hours on two different days, so we're going to drop him off then and see how it goes. Meanwhile, for my first week of school, we have one of Tom's cousins babysitting one night and then Tom's youngest brother and his fiancee will babysit the next. I'm happy with this arrangement - Tom's mom had offered to watch him, but she's also going to be watching my niece and nephew, so we would have had to bring Ronan over there. I was just worried that after having spent his first full day in daycare, he just wouldn't adjust well to then having to go to yet another new place.

In other news, he's just on the verge of crawling. He's got the army creep down - he pulls himself forward with his arms. But now he often gets his knees under him too - he's starting to get rug burns on his knees. He's also become fascinated with the dogs' food bowl. Once he sees it, he zeroes in and makes his way over there. The first time I didn't stop him in time and he dumped the whole thing over. After that, I would turn him around or pick him and put him on the other side of the room, but he knew it was still over there and made his way back. We'll have to move those soon.

Otherwise, not a whole lot is going on. Tom and I are both sick, and hoping that Ronan doesn't get it too, although I'm not sure that's possible. But keep your fingers crossed!
