Food, glorious food

Well, we've officially started feeding Ronan solids. You can see the pictures at Flickr, but so far, it's going pretty well. We started with applesauce and he really seemed to enjoy it. The first couple spoonfuls, you could tell he was a bit confused, but he didn't spit it out or anything.

He also loves the whole idea of using a spoon. Tom initially was holding his hands back, because he couldn't get the spoon in without Ronan grabbing for it. I've been letting Ronan "help" by holding the spoon, although that usually leads to a greater mess. He first tries to grab it by the actual spoon part where the food is. Then he'll grab the handle and try to put it in his mouth by himself. However, we still need to work on hand-eye coordination - most tries end up with him smashing himself in the nose or the chin.

Today I tried giving him peas. His first reaction was a "yuck" and I didn't blame him. The stuff smelled pretty bad. (There's no way I'm tasting it.) But he kept trying it and pretty soon he was reaching for more. I'm hoping and praying he has a more adventurous palate than I do (I've always been really embarrassed by the fact that I'm not a huge fan of different foods).

The dogs are pretty interested in this new development. I've let Loki help clean off Ronan (lick his hands and stuff after meals) and it's so funny to see them sit by the highchair and wait for something to drop (so far nothing's fallen, but I'm sure once we get to the Cheerios stage, they'll be in heaven).

Other than that, things are pretty much business as usual. I've started getting some of my books for school and am trying to get a jump on the reading, but it's slow going. In the morning, we're going to visit a daycare center near school. I hope it goes well. I'm getting a little stressed about that issue. Both Tom and I have some reservations about daycare, but I'm also excited for Ronan to start spending time with other kids. Hopefully we can get this whole bottle thing worked out soon so I don't have to worry about that. It helps though that he likes eating food as well though. Anyway, I know it'll all work out, but I'll feel better once things are more concrete.

Yay, food! I can't believe he's that age already! If he totally hates the bottle, you can try a sippy (the kind without the seal). He might not like it but in a month or two I bet he would get it. frisco's bottle of choice was Avent but Ellie refused all bottles.

Thanks for the sippy cup idea! I was browsing through the old AskMoxie posts on similar issues and saw that recommended. I think I'm going to buy one later today.

Thanks for introducing me to that site, by the way - I can't tell you what a relief it was to read how so many people had similar issues and it all worked out. :)
