Thumb-sucking, family visit, and baptism

It's been a busy week. Ronan, after many many tries with his fist, discovered how to suck his thumb. He's still not quite proficient at it - it takes a few tries and often hits himself in the face a few times before he gets it in there. It's made a bit of a difference when it comes to sleeping or if he has to wait a few minutes before eating. And he's just so darn cute!

Then my family came into town on Friday (my parents, brother and sister-in-law). It was great to see them all and another reminder of how lucky I am to have such a great family. Saturday was pretty laid-back. My dad, brother and I spent some time in the morning playing catch, then the two of them and my sister-in-law went to a baseball game while my mom and I stayed home with the baby.

On Sunday, we had Ronan baptized. My in-laws were able to make it to the service as well, which was great. My mother-in-law lent us the christening gown that has been in their family since 1945. I love having traditions like that, so it was really cool that my son could be baptized in the same gown that his father and grandfather (I think) had been christened in. Who knows, maybe someday when he has kids of his own, they can use that gown as well. I was a little bummed that things didn't go exactly as I had imagined - it was quite warm and Ronan started to get cranky during the sermon. He stayed slightly calm while we were standing up front, but when the pastor took for the actual baptism, he started to really cry. Additionally, our pastor, who usually gives incredible sermons, decided to do some weird story-time sermon. Oh well, not a big deal, but still. We did some pictures afterward, although Ronan really wasn't in the mood for it, so most of the pictures have him crying.

Following the service, we came back to the house and had a great lunch and got to spend some more time together. Sadly, because of work, my brother and his wife had to leave pretty soon after that and a couple hours later, my dad had to take off as well. My mom left this morning (she's flying back), so now the house is pretty quiet. The weather has been gorgeous though and I love having the windows open. On Saturday, my parents, brother and I took Ronan and the dogs down to the lake for a nice little walk. All in all, it was a great weekend.
