What's going on...

So here's a random collection of things that have happened here recently.

First off, more animal encounters. The other morning, I let the dogs out when I got up. One of these days I will remember to put my glasses on first. Anyway, they RACED out of the door and started flying around the yard, at which point I realized there was something else in there. So I ran outside and Shadow had a rabbit in his mouth. My first reaction was one of relief that it wasn't a cat. Then I got Shadow to drop it (that took some convincing) and got the two dogs back in the house. I put some gloves on and went back out to dispose of the body and found the rabbit still alive! I was able to touch it, to see if there were any broken bones (since there wasn't any blood) but couldn't feel anything. The rabbit then seemed to realize what was going on and jumped up and ran - head first into the fence. This was not the smartest rabbit I've ever encountered. It then hopped around the yard a bit and finally I caught him and carried him to the gate and put him down in safety (he was much more appreciative than that damn cat - no scratching or biting). However, he never moved from the spot and when I came home after work, he was dead. Not sure what happened, but probably shock or internal injuries of some sort. At any rate, I'm getting a bit concerned about this tendency of animals to go LOOKING for trouble in our yard. I thought animals could smell predators.

Second, we've had some work down on the house (yay!) Mainly, we had an electrician in and put in a ceiling fan in both our bedroom and our living room and a new chandelier in our dining room, along with an exhaust fan for the bathroom. Very exciting, as lame as that may sound. :)

Finally, I'll be heading back to Minnesota (albeit for a very brief trip) on Saturday (week from tomorrow). I'm really looking forward to seeing everyone. I'm also hoping to meet with a potential PhD advisor at the U of M, but not sure if that'll work out or not. Anyway, it'll be fun.

when welived in Colorado, with lots of wild animals, I got in the habit of sort of half opening, then closing the door before I let the dogs out. At lease it gave any animals a chance. I still do it now although we only have lizards. Still, I don't like cleaning up dead lizards. :)
