Today is Ronan's 2nd birthday. I can't believe how quickly the past two years have gone, or how much he's changed in that time. He has a new favorite game now: Scary Dinosaur. When he wants to play, he leads me into the kitchen and then starts roaring at me. That's my cue to scream and run around the corner. Then I come back into the kitchen and he roars again. Sometimes though he's laughing so hard that he can't stop to roar. It's very cute.
We went to the doctor for his 2 year check up. I did feel a little bad about having him get shots on his birthday, but oh well. The check up itself went pretty well. He's in the 88% for height and, at 28 lbs, is right in the middle for weight. The doctor was also pretty impressed by Ronan's problem solving abilities. While I was filling out the autism screening checklist, Ronan went and got the little step stool, pushed it over to the window, tried to sit on it one way, found it wasn't working, and so tried something else. It's something I'm really used to seeing him do, so I don't think much about it, but his doctor said it showed he was a good problem solver. So that was cool. It also looks like he might be left handed, like me. Yay. :) He got two shots - flu shot and his last hep A one. Of course he hated it, but was fine afterward.
Unfortunately, it wasn't over. We had to go up to the lab for some blood work. There was the standard lead test, but the doctor also wanted to check him for infections. He's getting concerned that Ronan can't beat this congestion, especially after the antibiotics he gave him two weeks ago. Well, we got the results back tonight and it turns out that Ronan has a blood issue affecting his white blood cell count, making it hard for him to fight infections. As a result, we have to be really careful if he starts coming down with something. The doctor said that if he runs a fever of 102, we need to get him to the ER, where he would probably have to stay the night so he could get an IV of super antibiotics. We'll be going back for blood tests every week until his numbers improve. It could be anywhere from a few days to a few months. So hopefully it'll be short. If Ronan could will it away, it'd be gone by the next blood test - he hates those so much!
Aside from that, he's doing pretty well. We're still working on potty training, though not very intensely. I bought him a little seat to put on the big toilet and he seems to like that, although he'll sit on the regular toilet too. We've had a few successes - the other day he peed and pooped in the potty. Once again though, he gets so excited as soon as he starts that he gets up and looks. He's so cute.
Well, I should get to work. I've been really sick this week myself and haven't been able to get much done around here. But those deadlines just don't budge.
