I can't believe we're already at the 9 month mark. Less than 3 months now till his first birthday! Things have been sort of crazy here though.
First, we had a great time with my dad visiting. It was a very short trip, but it was good to see him and I really appreciated him taking care of Ronan while I was in class on Monday. I had to laugh though - when I came home, I could hear Ronan kind of babbling and as I peeked around the corner, I could see he was sitting happily with my dad. The second he saw me though, he scrunched up his face and started crying. He's started doing that with Tom as well - he's fine as long as he can't see me, but once I get in the room, he'll get fussy or cry. I'm not sure if this is his way of making me feel needed or else to show he's mad that I leave him. :)
Ronan had been fighting a cold the whole time my dad was here (sorry he passed it on Dad!), but by Wednesday, he seemed to be doing better. I dropped him off at daycare and went to school. At about 1:30 though, I got a call saying that he had thrown up and was having diarrhea and I needed to come get him. I headed over there, and found that he had thrown up again. We got home and I still wasn't entirely sure I would know the difference between spitting up and throwing up (stupid as that sounds). Well, Ronan was kind enough to demonstrate the difference, projectile vomiting all over me. It was scary (and gross), but after that, he seemed to have gotten it all out of his system (frankly, I can't imagine there was anything left in his system). The next morning we went to the doctor, since he was supposed to get a flu shot. I figured they'd say no to the shot, but he was doing so much better that they went ahead with it anyway. Surprisingly, he didn't cry. He was a little upset when they first stuck him, but then was fine. I'm hoping it helps prevent any more severe illnesses. We'll have to go back later for the swine flu vaccine, but at least this is something. We're going back in two weeks anyway for the 9 month check up.
Meanwhile, in non-sickness news, Ronan's really getting the hang of pulling himself up and walking around. The downside is that he can pull himself up in his crib too, so if I put him down and he decides he's not ready to sleep, he'll just stand there and scream/cry - and standing is not conducive to sleeping. However, most of the time it's just really cute. Tonight he was walking around the coffee table when Loki came up - Ronan grabbed onto him and Loki started moving, with Ronan still holding on. I pulled him off, of course, before Loki started dragging him around the house, but I think Ronan was having fun. He loves to walk to the dogs, especially when they're on the couch. I think his next goal is going to be how to climb up there with them. It's also fun to watch him try to figure things out. He likes to hold onto either his nail clippers or a coaster while he's walking, but he often drops them. You can then see his little mind working to figure out how he can get down to pick it back up. I've seen him try a variety of things (reaching for a lower part of the couch, sort of bending down, staring really hard trying to use the Force, etc), but so far he only succeeds in just falling over.
Finally, we went and got his hair cut again tonight. He did very well - no crying or fussing. The only problem was that once again he kept trying to reach for the scissors or look around at the other people there. The stylist was very good at cutting what she could in short little bursts. He looks pretty good - at least the hair is out of his eyes now. I'll try to get a picture up tomorrow. But for now, I should get back to work, so good night!
