Who voluntarily stays in a hurricane?

On Sunday, we got hit with the remnants of Hurricane Ike here in Ohio. It was less than fun. Super fast winds, but luckily no rain (and no ocean, obviously). Trees fell everywhere (we lost a bunch of big big branches, but no full trees, thankfully) and over 2 million people lost power. We were one of those households. We finally got power back tonight, almost 48 hours exactly (slightly more).

The really annoying part was the fact that we're on a well/septic system, which means that without electricity powering the pump, we had no running water. That got old really really fast. Thankfully, Tom's parents had a bunch of 10 gallon jugs (like what you use for a water cooler) which we filled up and brought back so we could occasionally flush the toilet. We showered there and also brought over everything in our fridge/freezer to keep cold (because God has a sense of humor and made sure that we lost power the same day that I went to the grocery store and stocked up on meat, milk, etc.). We also took advantage of the energy company's free giveaway of ice and bottled water at our local grocery store.

Still, it's really wonderful to have electricity and running water again. Hopefully they'll get the rest of the state back up and running soon (we were originally being told it might not be until Friday or later before we got our power). Now it's time to start cleaning up.
