Ronan's Four!

Today Ronan turns four.  It's very weird to think of the time.  In some ways, it seems like it was just yesterday that we brought him home, but most of the time, it seems like he's always been here with us.  I will never forget that first day, when Ronan was brought back from the nursery.  I had just walked out of the bathroom and the nurse announced, "Look who's here to stay with you!" There was a moment (or more) of panic on my part as I realized that I was now responsible for this precious life.  It's been an amazing experience, and though we've had numerous bumps along the way, I love watching him grow, learning new things and developing his own sense of self.  Lately, he's been asking lots of questions about the sun, the moon, night and day.  When we drive home from daycare, the sun is usually setting, so he asks where it's going.  I've been trying to explain to him how the Earth moves around the sun and when it's dark here, it's daytime on the other side of the world.  He seems fascinated and confused by it all.  Then yesterday he told me that if you touched the sun, it would hurt and you'd have to run your finger under water to make it feel better.  (He burned his finger on a hot pan a couple days ago.) I just love this age.

Yesterday, we celebrated his birthday with his grandparents and some of his cousins.  It was a lot of fun watching Ronan play with his cousins.  They laughed a lot (love the sound of children's laughter!) and played hard.  Afterwards, Ronan went back to my in-laws and spent the night there (as did his cousins).  I'm sure the fun continued there!

In other news, Tristan continues to hit new milestones.  He's now a master crawler and has started taking a few steps on his own.  Ronan thinks it's fantastic whenever Tristan tries to walk and likes to try to "help" him stand up and try again.  Other times, if he wants Tristan to follow him, Ronan will get down on the floor and start crawling, looking behind him and saying, "Come on Tristan! Let's go find mommy!" Tristan also loves bath time.  His favorite place to crawl is into the bathroom, where he goes directly to the tub.  The best is when it really is bath time - we get the bath started and I take Tristan into his room to get him undressed.  As soon as I put him down, he zooms to the bathroom.  I've never seen a baby crawl so fast!  He's also started saying something that sounds remarkably close to "bubbles."  It's kind of crazy to think that soon we'll be celebrating his first birthday here!
