Wow I'm bad at this

I keep thinking about updating, but thought that I wasn't that far behind.  But somehow it's March already and I haven't updated since Ronan's birthday.  Oops.  My apologies.

Things are going pretty smoothly here.  It's hard to believe that Tristan will be one in a couple weeks!  The year has really flown by.  Tristan's walking all over the place now.  It's a lot of fun - I'll be working in the kitchen or at my desk and suddenly this little head comes zooming by.  He likes chasing Ronan around and getting into the bathroom to demolish the toilet paper roll.  We finally had to put a gate up in the bathroom door to keep him out of there (since even if you close the door all the way, the latch doesn't hold well and a good shove will open it right back up).  It's made for some interesting adjustments for Ronan.  Luckily, he puts his climbing skills to good use and thinks it's funny.

A few days ago, Tristan took a pretty bad fall though and landed face first on a pile of toys.  He got a black eye and I realized after a few days that there's a great way to tell parents (and people who spend a lot of time around young kids) apart from non.  Take a 10-11 month old baby out in public with a black eye.  The non-kid people will stare and ask incredulously, "What on earth happened?!" (all while secretly thinking of calling child services).  The parents and daycare folks will just give you a smile and say knowingly, "Ah, he's learning to walk, isn't he." Luckily, he's healing up just fine and no visits from the county (yet) for me.  If he follows Ronan's history, though, there will be a lot more cuts and bruises to follow.

Ronan still loves having a little brother, though it can at times get frustrating when that brother just wants to play with your toys.  But overall, Ronan loves roughhousing with him, carrying him around, and showing him off to his friends at daycare.  A couple weeks ago, it warmed up to the high 40s here, so I decided to take Ronan to the zoo, just as a mommy-son trip, while Tristan stayed home with Tom.  We had fun, but at the end, Ronan said, "Maybe next time we can bring Tristan" and then insisted on buying a present for Tristan at the gift shop.  What a sweet boy!

Daycare's also going well - they have a small indoor pool there and now that they finally have a lifeguard, Ronan does swim time three days a week.  He loves it!  Two days are just free swim/play time, but Wednesdays are swimming lessons.  Ronan differentiates it by saying that they either let him play with the toys or not.  He's also had to adjust a bit to the pre-K room.  While they still spend the majority of time playing, there's now a bit more structure and now he has to learn to sit in circle time and things like that.  But after a couple weeks, he got the hang of it.  He's also learning to write his name, which just amazes me.  He still seems to little for that.  :)

But now it's time to head to church, which is always an adventure.  Tristan loves to sing and make noise, and Ronan feels like he needs to respond to him in kind.  Thankfully, we have a very understanding congregation and we're slowly making progress on the whole quiet thing.  Wish us luck though!
