Ronan's birthday

Ronan turned three on Saturday. We had a small party with Tom's family at our house. It was pretty low-key: pizza, cake and ice-cream, and presents, with the kids running around and playing in between. It's so much fun to watch them all hang out together. Ronan had fun opening presents, though I realize now that I have to be super vigilant with presents! I bought Ronan's gift on Friday and wrapped it up. He saw it and wanted to open it, but I told him he had to wait till his birthday. So Saturday morning, while I was getting dressed, Ronan came into my room and I told him happy birthday. He gave me this look, then turned and left. A few moments later, I heard Tom telling him no. I went out there - Ronan had started opening his present! I guess he remembered me saying that he'd have to wait till his birthday and, now that it was here, he was allowed to open it. He saw that it was this dinosaur that he's been wanting forever, but I told him he had to wait until everyone else showed up before opening the rest of it. So until then, he kept walking around asking for his "big dinosaur."

On Tuesday, he had his 3 yr. well check appointment. Everything is looking good. He's 34 lbs (73%) and 39 inches (83%). He was a little unsure about getting on the scale or standing against the height chart, but eventually we got him. I am impressed by how well he lets the doctor check his eyes, mouth, etc. He used to fight it really hard. He also brought his new dinosaur and showed it to everyone in the office. It was pretty cute. Then that night, we went out to dinner for my nephew's birthday. It was in a refurbished train car, which Ronan was thrilled with. There are a lot of January birthdays now, including my cousin's new son, who was born on Ronan's birthday. Congrats Steph!

I also had my own doctor's appointment on Monday. Things are overall looking good. I don't think my blood pressure has been this great in a long time, so hopefully that means we're going to avoid the high blood pressure problems I had with Ronan. Unfortunately, it also looks like I had another kidney stone. There were traces of blood in my sample, which coincides with a recurrence of that pain in my side over the weekend. Luckily, that didn't last long (I just kept chugging water). But here's hoping that was the last of that. We'll see though. I have an ultrasound scheduled in two weeks, to check on the baby and make sure everything looks good. It's hard to believe that there's only 2 months left.

Those are the very best parties for children! I could send you a ton of studies that have crossed my desk at preschool, but I'm betting you would rather I didn't ;) love you, mom
