I hope everyone had a wonderful set of holidays. Christmas Part II was a success here. Ronan had a great time opening presents and playing with his cousins over at my in-laws on Christmas Day. We were pretty boring here for New Year's Eve - Tom had to get up at 4:30 the next morning for work, so he went to bed very early. I stayed up a few hours later, but realized there was no way I was making it to midnight. On New Year's Day, however, Ronan and I went down to Columbus, where Tom's oldest brother and his wife hosted a great get together for the immediate family. It was nice to see everyone and catch up, since there were so many people at Christmas. The kids all had a blast. It was fun to watch Ronan with his baby cousin, Adelle, who just turned one last month. Toward the end of the day, he would follow her around and try to share toys with her. He also wanted to hold her, so we had him sit on the couch and put her on his lap. He had a death grip on her and got very upset when she started wiggly away, yelling "My baby! My baby's moving!" I love how excited he gets around babies and how much he wants to play with them and take care of them (though he doesn't always quite get that babies/younger kids can't play quite the same way he can). I'm hoping this continues once our baby gets here, but I'm sure the shine will wear off once he realizes this baby isn't going anywhere.
Aside from that, not much is going on. We bought a new (to us) car for Tom last week. Unfortunately, about two days later, it stopped working and needed a jump to get started. Took it back to the dealer and it turned out to be a bad battery. They replaced it free of charge, and I'm really hoping that's the only problem we'll have. I hate buying cars, precisely for this reason! But Tom really likes it (it's a 2008 Jeep Commander), so as long as everything holds up, we should be good to go.
Meanwhile, I'm trying to get ready for school to start next week. I had such a good class last semester that I'm a bit nervous of what I'll get this time around. Hopefully another good group. It'll also be interesting to see what happens as we get closer to my due date. Luckily, I have a friend who will take over for me once the baby comes, so I don't have to worry about trying to either get back into the classroom quickly or juggling multiple subs. It's been so great to have her help.
Well, speaking of school, I should get back to work. I've been trying to write this prospectus for my dissertation and am now on my third (hopefully final!) draft. Each time I write it, I get close to the end and realize that I had things all wrong, so then I have to start over. It's been quite frustrating, to say the least. But I really think I've got it now - and if not, I might just stick with it anyway, just to get it over with!
