Today I turned in my last paper for the semester. It was a brutal finish for this week. I had a 20 page paper due Monday, which luckily was mostly just editing a rough draft I'd done a few weeks earlier. Then I had a take home final for my political science class due Wednesday and then I had to read four more books and write a 15 page paper on them (and two others) which was due today. I had a lovely plan for how this was all going to be done without me staying up crazy hours. Then I got Ronan home last Thursday night and he started throwing up. Bye-bye plans. I felt so bad for him. He'd throw up (usually on me), but then would be fine until about an hour later, when he'd throw up again. The worst was when he threw up in his bed - Tom was at work, so I was trying to clean Ronan off, hold him, and also get his gross sheet and pillow off the bed and into the washing machine. Thankfully, that was the last time he threw up that night. I thought we were in the clear, but then Sunday night, he threw up again about five minutes after we put him to bed. Luckily, Tom was home that time, so one of us would watch Ronan in the tub while the other scrubbed the carpet and got his sheet and pillow washed. Hopefully we're past this now, but it's hard to say for sure. I haven't been feeling well since then, but I'm not sure if I'm actually sick or if it's just the combo of stress and knowing Ronan's sick and worrying that I will get it too.
Other than that, though, Ronan's been doing really well. He's having a lot of fun at daycare and in addition to making friends, he's also apparently "smitten" with one of the girls there. I really wish that I could somehow watch him at daycare without him knowing it. I don't like the ideas of cameras in the classroom, but it would be fun to watch him interact with the other kids and see what he does during the day. When I come to get him, one of the little girls usually announces "Ronan's mommy is here!" and he drops what he's doing and runs over yelling "Mama!" with a big grin on his face. I love it. One of his teachers also told me that he's been helping clean up a lot, which is great. He does this at home too. He likes to take a paper towel or Swiffer or whatever and wipe things up. He'll also bring the broom over and try to sweep things that fall on the floor. Of course, he also sometimes likes to make a mess just so he can try to clean it up, which is both frustrating and cute. I'm trying to figure out a way to keep up this love of cleaning for when he's older and can actually help with chores.
I still have to finish grading exams, but once that's done, I'm really looking forward to just taking a break and relaxing as much as possible. I know technically I should be working, but I think I need the break more. We'll see how it goes.
