Can we just skip to fully potty trained?

I'm really beginning to wish we could just go straight from diapers to fully potty trained. Don't get me wrong - I love that Ronan is so interested in using the potty and he's getting better about telling me when he has to go (or if he already has). But on the other hand, it can get frustrating when he decides it's potty time right before we have to leave the house or when he decides he just wants to play in the bathroom. His newest thing is to stand at the sink, get a cup of water, drink some of it and then dump the rest out either in the sink or in the toilet. I'm torn on what to do - on the one hand, I hope the constant drinking will get him peeing sooner, but on the other hand, he seems much more interested in that than actually using the potty. But on the plus side, we've had some successes now, with both pee and poop. I want to keep encouraging him (and it really helps that daycare works with him too). I wonder sometimes though if it's better for me to act like it's a huge hassle - he is starting to enter a contrary phase, so maybe if he thinks I don't want him to potty train, he'll do it just to spite me. (Look for my new book: Parenting via Reverse Psychology. It's sure to be a hit.)

Alright, I suppose we can move out of the bathroom (even though that's where I'm spending more and more time lately). It's day two of freedom and I'm loving it. I haven't been able to completely do what I want (yesterday was supposed to be my free day, but stuff came up). Ronan's not in daycare for the rest of the week, so we're going to probably have to adjust a bit to going back to only 2 days a week at daycare, instead of four. I really do appreciate what a good set-up we have. We get the benefits of daycare but I still get to spend a lot of time at home with him. I sometimes wish I was more of a craftsy mom, but we make do. I still try to do outside time with him, but that's hit a bit of a snag. Ronan fights tooth and nail against winter gear. He doesn't want to wear his winter coat (though he'll usually put it on), but he absolutely freaks over gloves, boots, hat, snow pants, etc. Luckily, it's not nearly as cold here as in MN, but gloves at least would be a plus. We'll just keep working at it.

Ronan has lately gotten more interested in dinosaurs. He has a T-Rex that he likes to take with him now. We took it to church on Sunday and about halfway through the service, he lifted it high into the air and let out a loud "ROAR!" Thankfully, people found it funny. His tiger still reigns supreme; we leave that one at home though. I don't want to risk anything happening to it, or worse, losing it if we take it out. The other day, he wanted to bring it to daycare with him. When I explained that tiger had to stay home, he went and put it back in his crib. It was so sweet.

Well, that about wraps things up for now. I'm trying to be better about updating things during break. We'll see how it goes.

going from diapers to fully potty trained is exactly what you did. I read you the toddlers potty book, and you said, "I could do that." We took off your diapers and you had one accident at night, and that was it! you were not quite two years old. mom
