Comparisons

One of the hardest things as a new parent, I think, is not to compare your child with others or to freak out over development. When I was pregnant (and before) I kept thinking about how I wasn't going to be one of those parents who's always worrying about what their kids are (or aren't) doing or trying to enroll them in pre-preschool so they can get into Harvard later. And while I'm not quite at that extreme, I do have to remember to not worry. I sometimes feel that I'm not doing enough to stimulate Ronan, even though I read to him, talk, sing, etc. I also didn't realize how hard it is to really "play" with an infant. :) but I don't want to end up like that woman in those Cheetos commercials going on about how her kid is in all these classes.

It doesn't help though that the doctor told me I need to make sure that Ronan spends more time on his belly - the left side of his head is a little flat. I've been trying to do tummy time every day, but he really hates it, so it doesn't last long.

I don't want to make this sound like I spend my days in anxiety. These are more passing worries, or nagging thoughts that really spring up with lack of sleep. Overall, I know that he's doing really well and we have a lot of fun together.

I'm going back to work (at Sterling) on April 7, which is getting close. I'll only be going in two days a week, so that's good and it'll only be through August, and then I'll start school. Hooray! Until then, I'm going to enjoy my time off.

Especially with the tummy time, Kael hated it too--and unfortunately we parents can only insist on so much!
