Perspective

I've been thinking a lot lately about "luck." I'm not saying that I think everything is based on luck, but there have been times where I've felt as though I've had a rotten string of it. However, after getting a phone call from a friend of mine today, I realized that I'm very blessed and lucky to be where I am. I have a great family, a loving husband, two wonderful dogs, a house, food on the table, etc.

A friend of mine who recently moved out of state called me today to tell me that her apartment burned down last night. She and her boyfriend happened to still be up, watching the Olympics and waiting to see Michael Phelps swim. If they hadn't been, it's very likely she wouldn't have been able to get out in time. The fire started in the apartment below them and their apartment was quickly engulfed in black smoke. They were able to get out safely with her two cats, but everything she owned is gone, much of it of little monetary worth, but of immense personal value. She sounded ok, trying to stay upbeat and focusing on the fact that all the living things made it out - they only lost "stuff." But it's still a hard thing to deal with, obviously. I'm really not sure what I can do to help her. She told me to just be thankful for all the good things in life and not to let the bad get me too down, always good words to live by.

Wow, horrible news about your friend's apartment--thank god they got out!

I know what you mean thinking about luck. This post, by the way, was very creepy for me as was watching Unbreakable when I first read it, and I'm watching Final Destination 2 now--both movies that deal with fate in a heavy way!!! Have you seen either?
