Well, yesterday I had the first big scare of my pregnancy. I was leaving work when I suddenly started getting these terrible, painful cramps (much like menstrual cramps). It was awful. I walked down to my car and sitting down helped ease some of the pain, but at that point, it had been going on for 10 minutes and I was terrified. I called my doctor's office, but they were close, so I talked with the Answering Service. About 15 minutes later, the other doctor in the practice called me back. He was so nice and reassuring. He told me that I shouldn't panic and these things sometimes happen. There wasn't any bleeding, which was a good sign, so he said to take a warm bath and see if that helped. If it didn't, or if I started bleeding, he told me to go to the hospital to get checked out.
Thankfully, the bath worked and the cramps went away. I didn't feel great for the rest of the night, but that was just more general queasiness than anything else. So I'm hopeful it wasn't anything serious and that everything is still ok. I have another doctor's appointment on July 1, so hopefully that'll be more reassuring. Tom talked with one of the other nurses he works with, who has 4 kids, and she said that during her last pregnancy, she had cramps and bled for three weeks in the early stages, but everything worked out and the baby was born healthy. That sounds pretty miserable, though, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I don't repeat that experience! :)
