I have a few minutes before we have to leave for church, Ronan's watching Dinosaur Train, so I thought I'd try to get in a quick update here.
I realized I'm probably going to be even worse about updating this summer than I am during the school year, so I apologize for that! In order to get all my reading done for comps, I have to average roughly 4 books a day, which is quite difficult when I'm home with Ronan. So as you can imagine, I have limited free time now. Luckily, starting this week, Tom's mom is going to be watching Ronan once a week, plus he's in daycare 2x a week, so that'll give me three days a week to be completely devoted to reading. Hopefully things will work as well as planned! I have to say, right now I'm in a stack of economic diplomacy books, which is less than thrilling for me, so things are taking a bit longer than they should.
But aside from that, things are going well. Ronan loves summer, namely because he can play with the hose. This boy loves water. He'll drag a chair over to the kitchen sink and fill and dump cups of water or stand on the toilet and do the same thing in the bathroom. When we go play at the lake, it's a constant struggle to keep him from running into the water, shoes and all. (I don't always win.) And then at home, he knows how to turn the hose on and loves to fill the dogs' outside water bowl or empty bubble bottles and dumping them out again. He always ends up soaked, but he has a blast. I feel a little bad sometimes with the amount of water we're wasting, but sometimes sacrifices must be made to keep a toddler happy!
Yesterday we were at the lake and played on the playground. There was another family there with two kids about Ronan's age and later another little boy (slightly younger than Ronan) showed up. It was nice to see Ronan play with the other kids. At one point, though, he and the little boy ran into each other (they were on one of those little bridges that connect the platforms of the playground and it sways - they were both playing nice, just got unbalanced by the swaying and fell into each other). The other boy started crying and the dad was right there trying to make sure everything was ok. He turned to ask Ronan if he was alright, but as usual, Ronan had barely noticed and moved on. I'm beginning to wonder if he might be that Bruce Willis character in Unbreakable who doesn't feel pain, or at least, it takes quite a bit to get his attention!
We've also been spending a lot of time at the Akron Zoo lately. I finally wised up and bought a year pass, so now I don't feel so bad about going all the time. Ronan doesn't always care to see all the animals, but it's a nice place to go and just let him run and burn off energy. On our last trip there, he became fascinated with the carousel there. He wouldn't leave! We watched it go through four cycles and finally he worked up the courage to go on. We've tried it before but he always freaked out when we got on. This time, he actually rode a tiger (of course) the whole time. I'm still not entirely sure if he had fun, but at least we were finally able to leave then. Sometimes I'm surprised how intently he focuses on stuff. We walked by a koi pond and he demanded we stay there for a good five minutes or so, just watching the fish swim. I was getting pretty bored, but he loved it.
Well, it looks like my five minutes are up. I hope everyone's doing well and handled the rapture just fine. :)
