Night Shift Rant

I know someone has to do it, but I'm so sick of Tom being on the night shift. In an effort to be fair and balanced, here are the pros: some extra money, he takes care of Ronan when he wakes up (on off nights), and, um, yeah. That's about all I have.

The cons? We hardly see him (he wakes up at 4:30 on days he works and leaves by 6, on days he's off he "sleeps in" till 6 and doesn't go to bed until 10 or 11 the next morning), he's usually very tired when he gets up (or when we do), he doesn't sleep well, I have to do nearly everything on my own, there's no "weekend" since he has to keep his sleep schedule even on days off, etc.

Plus, it's really hard to keep a house with two dogs and a toddler quiet during the day. For the most part, Tom can sleep through the usual noise, but if the dogs start barking, that can be an issue. And Ronan loves his dad and wants to see him. He knows where he is, so I also have to be extra vigilante that Ronan doesn't run down to the bedroom and either pound on the door or (as he's recently learned to do), open it up and go in yelling "Dada!!" This also makes it hard to get work around the house done, because if Ronan starts to move out of eye-sight, he might be headed to the bedroom and I have to run after him.

I'm grateful Tom has a job, especially when things are so tough in the economy. But after 5 years, I'm finding it harder to adapt to this situation. I know he's trying to switch, but there just aren't many openings. Hopefully by early next year he can. I don't even want to think about trying to prep for comps while watching Ronan all summer...

Thanks for reading my rant! :)
