I'm learning this is a key part of having a toddler. He really makes things fun, but it also makes even the simplest tasks an adventure.
Today's saga was laundry. To begin with, Ronan decided that it was helpful to pull the dirty clothes out of the washing machine as I was trying to put them in (we have a front loader, so it's right at his level). Then, if I got him distracted from that, he'd pull down the laundry basket with the clean wet clothes in it and start pulling laundry from there. If I put him out of the room, he'd take that opportunity to try to bang on the bedroom door and wake up Tom. So I finally manage to get everything together and got him, the dogs, the laundry, and myself outside to hang things up. It's nice and warm here today (hence hanging laundry outside), so I put water in the dog's bowl. Ronan thought that was an excellent idea and proceeded to then splash the water all over. I decided to let him, since it wasn't hurting anything and keeping him busy. However, once the water was all splashed out, he took to climbing the stairs. He's pretty good at getting up, but he's also determined to go down like a normal person, which he isn't quite as adept at (but he's getting close). So there was a lot of me running over, pulling him off the stairs, putting him as far away from the stairs as possible, then trying to hang up one or two articles of clothing before he got back there. We did this about two or three times this afternoon. Still, it was fun to watch him explore things (he also discovered more dirt in between trips to the stairs) and chase the dogs around. It also had the added bonus of wearing him out. (Or so I thought. As I type, I can hear him babbling to himself over the monitor.)
Ronan also had his 15 month check up last week. Overall, things are looking good. He's 21 lbs, 10 oz, which puts him in 17th percentile (up from the 5th at his last appointment). He's also 32 inches long (75%). We ended up getting a few prescriptions for him as well. The doctor was getting a bit concerned with how congested Ronan always seems to be, so he gave us an antibiotic, which seems to have helped (he's still a little snotty and coughy, but not nearly as bad as before). We also had to get an antibiotic cream because he got a terrible diaper rash, which the doctor thought looked more like an infection rather than a fungal or yeast problem. That also did the trick - by the next morning Ronan looked a lot better and was no longer crying whenever we had to change his diaper.
Other than that, things are going ok. We've also been dealing with our furnace, which those of you on Facebook have seen. The thing completely died a few weeks ago. Of course, this did not happen during the week that we had 80 degree days, but rather after the temps dropped back into the 40s (maybe hitting 50 if we were lucky). We had the company come out (we'd gotten all the estimates and stuff a few weeks earlier, but were hoping to wait until we had some money saved up) and got the new one in the next day (and gave us space heaters for the interim). Unfortunately, as they had suspected, the thing had been leaking under both our basement and our garage. So we still have to get that fixed (at the moment, those parts just aren't connected to the new furnace), but that's definitely going to have to wait. Then on Wednesday, the thing stopped working. Luckily, they were able to fix it that day (something with the computer - I didn't even know there was a computer in it).
Well, I suppose I should get back to work. I have about 2 weeks left, which means I have to finish reading, write two 15-25 page papers, grade, and then collapse in an exhausted heap, from which I do not plan on rising for at least a week. :)
