I now have the confirmed syllabus for two classes and know the requirements for the third. I have no idea how I'm going to do it. Here's a breakdown of my requirements:
Read two books and a minimum of two articles (often more) per week.
Write one 5-7 page paper by Sept. 28
Write three (3) 20-30 page papers by the end of the semester (one for each class, all on different topics and all requiring additional reading to the above 2 books/week)
For two of my classes, in addition the above readings, I have to pick two weeks each where I read an additional book, write a review for it, and present it to the class.
For those same two class, I have to pick one week for each where I lead discussion.
One take home final (usually in grad school, you don't have to do a final, because you have mammoth papers to write instead).
For one class, I'll have to read and write a critique for classmates' papers.
Then for the class I TA for, I have to write and give two lectures (one which has to be on a topic I'm not familiar with), grade three exams and two papers, plus an undetermined (as yet) number of smaller assignments, for at least 50 students. Oh, and there are two books I have to read for that as well, though they should be less of a problem.
Oh, and theoretically, I should be reading for comps as well.
The good news (grasping at straws here!) is that I've already read one book for one class and volunteered to do one of my extra books for the second week - it's one of my comps books, so that'll help. I also spent time yesterday while Ronan was at his first day of daycare going through the huge stack of microfilm. Found some helpful stuff, though not as much as I had hoped (and some of it is in French, so that'll take a while for me to translate). I go back to the library tomorrow and do some more work then. Ronan's scheduled to be in daycare three days a week once the semester starts, so I can just have Fridays to research/read. I'm wondering though if I need to bite the bullet and add a fourth day. We'll see how it goes.
I keep praying that Tom will suddenly get a day shift position, but it's doubtful that'll happen before next year. I'm sure I'll make it through this semester (somehow), but it's looking pretty daunting now. So I'm going to go back to work.
