The weather's been beautiful here lately. Sunny and in the mid-80s, so Ronan and I have been spending some time outdoors. Today we were playing in the backyard, in the dogs' area and Ronan was fascinated with their water bowl. So I got a plastic container and filled that with water for him to play with. He had a ball. He'd splash his hands in it, try to dump it out, threw rocks in it, etc. While he was playing with that, the dogs suddenly bolted over - they had spotted a toad. Ronan immediately got up to see what the dogs were doing and saw the toad as well. So the three of them were chasing it and then Ronan reached out and grabbed it. I thought that was great, until he started squeezing it, at which point I stepped in and took it away. Still, it was fun for everyone (except the toad).
Other than that, things are going pretty well. Even though (or perhaps, because) it's summer vacation, I feel like I should be doing a ton of stuff. My goals for the summer are to paint our living room/hallway, paint the ceiling in our sunroom (it got water damage from a hail storm a few years ago), do research for the fall, and start getting my comps lists finalized (and hopefully start reading). So far, I've only started on painting our living room. I got two walls plus the entire hallway painted tonight and I hope to paint the same tomorrow. The other two walls in our living room will be harder. They're both very long, and all our big furniture (TV, couches, desks, etc.) are along those two. So that's going to take some planning. But I knew I just needed to get started or else it would be another year or two before I did it. I've been wanting to paint in here forever.
In other Ronan news, I thought it was great that when we were running errands the other day, people kept giving him stuff. We were at Sherwin Williams and even though we were next in line, the people in front of us took half an hour (they seemed unable to understand the account system, seeing as how the sales person had to keep explaining it). Ronan was pretty quiet and calm for the whole thing, so when it was our turn, the sales person declared that he deserved something for it. The only thing she had was a little booklet with the Indians' schedule, but Ronan was quite happy with that. It was very nice of her. Then we went to the vet to pick up meds for the dogs and the women there all ooh'd and ahh'd over Ronan and gave him a little stuffed dog. I'm kind of glad he's still a little young to really understand this - I'd hate for him to think he gets gifts every time we run an errand! :) But I never get tired of hearing people say what a good baby I have. I'm sure we'll pay for this later, so I'm going to enjoy now while I can. :)
And actually, on the flip side, I'm beginning to think we can no longer have chairs in the house. Ronan is a monkey. We can't simply push our chairs all the way under the table or desk - he's figured out how to pull them out or else get under said table or desk and push the chair out. Then he scurries on up and starts pulling down everything in reach. And if we do pull them out and he's really determined, he can often push them back. He also can pull himself up onto our coffee table without standing on anything. Nothing is safe.
But it's midnight here and I'm exhausted, so in the words of Edward Murrow, good night and good luck.
