So sweet

So I've been trying to work on helping Ronan get back to sleep without nursing, to mixed results. I'm certainly not trying to quit cold turkey - when he wakes up in the middle of the night, I start by just rocking him and if that doesn't work, then we nurse. Last night was wonderful - he woke up at about midnight, we ended up nursing, and then he slept till 6 a.m., at which point he was up for the day. Still, getting nearly 6 hours of uninterrupted sleep was wonderful.

Tonight we did our usual routine: bath, eating, playing for a few minutes, then I took him back to his room. I brushed his teeth for the first time (with just water, obviously, but using one of those little finger toothbrushes). He wasn't really sure about it at first, but it must have felt good, because then he let me do it. I turned on his little musical sea horse and left the room. I could hear him babbling over the monitor, but once the sea horse shut off, he started crying. I gave him a minute to see what he'd do, then went in there and picked him up. He immediately snuggled into my chest and fell asleep. It was so sweet.

Hopefully he'll stay asleep for most of the night. I could easily get used to sleeping long stretches again. But I'm realistic enough to know that patterns rarely last. Still - here's hoping!
